Anthony had this to say about the song in a Sirius XM feature:
“There’s a song called ‘Reach Out,’ which I really feel good about. It’s a song that makes me happy, it’s a song that makes my son happy, it’s a song that makes this Costa Rican girl happy, she heard it during the writing process. John claims to have been listening to a ton of the band Yes prior to the writing of ‘Reach Out,’ so hats off to Yes. For me it had a beautiful contrast which for me was kind of dainty, lilting, delicate, antigravitational, classical sounding verse, and then it has this big bottom-heavy, feels-like-you-just-crapped-your-pants chorus. The beautiful synchronicity of ‘Reach Out’ is I wrote these lyrics inspired by the music which is so frequently the case, these boys will write music and then it’ll speak to me lyrically, melodically, rhythmically, energetically, so I wrote ‘Reach Out’ to this big-bottomed chorus, and some time went by and John said to me, he’s like ‘Reach Out?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah. It’s called Reach Out,’ and he said, ‘Oh, did you know I had a song called ‘Reach Out?’ and I was like, ‘No! I had no idea.’ And he’s like ‘Yeah, yeah, on one of my solo records, there’s a song called ‘Reach Out.’ I was like, ‘Amazing, cool, I love that coincidence.”
