“‘Bella’... has an emotional content to it. Flea came in with the bass line in an unusual time signature, called 7/4, which was basically invented to make it hard for singers, because there’s no obvious time where to enter, or exit, something that Parliament/Funkadelic were masterful at, but for me, I’m remedial in my approach sometimes. Not a bad thing. But 7/4, so there is this cool verse, it’s funky, and then John took that verse home, picked up his guitar and wrote a chord change for the chorus, it came in a very natural and a delightfully unfolding number. My favorite line of which is: ‘Hell no my name ain’t Bradley,’ this line appears in the song, and it makes Chad Smith smile, so...”
